In a shocking wedding scandal in Fujian, China, a groom played a video of his bride allegedly cheating with her brother-in-law during their wedding reception. The five-minute video, projected in front of stunned guests, was reportedly shown to humiliate the bride after the groom discovered the affair through a security camera.
The unverified footage has gone viral, sparking widespread debate online. Some believe the incident to be real, while others argue it was a marketing stunt by a video app.
The incident has been widely covered by major Chinese media outlets, including Sina, Apple Daily, and Ettoday. The wedding, held last Thursday, initially featured the couple walking down the aisle and an emcee announcing a video of the newlyweds’ childhoods. Instead, an explicit video played, leading to a confrontation on stage.
Reports suggest the couple had been together for two years and engaged for six months. The groom allegedly discovered the affair during home renovations. The bride’s sister, the wife of the brother-in-law in question, is reportedly six months pregnant.
An entertainment blogger, ‘Jiang Zhe Hu Ba Jie,’ claimed the video first appeared on a short-video app, ‘Aubergine Video,’ dubbing the incident the ‘aubergine brother-in-law gate.’ The blogger also mentioned allegations of domestic violence by the groom, which supposedly led to the affair.
The bride has demanded the removal of all video clips from the internet. However, another columnist, Mr. Zha, suggested the entire event was a marketing ploy, pointing out the video’s logo and questioning the app’s exclusive access to the footage.
As of now, clips of the incident have been removed from Chinese social media platform Weibo but continue to circulate on Twitter and WeChat.
