*AGGSOGA, Ogun CJ Mourn
By Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu
I woke up on Saturday morning to see her photos everywhere. That was not unusual, given her status in society. Then I clicked on the Abeokuta Girls Grammar School Old Girls Association’s WhatsApp platform and got struck by the thunderbolt of her sudden departure.
I was shocked! The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Mrs. Alaba Lawson was a strong pillar of support to many, and that never robbed her of humility.
About ten years ago, when I told her, “Iyalode, I attended your secondary school, AGGS.” She screamed, “Up school!”and changed our discussion to education. Iyalode, the educationist. She had too many colourful feathers on her glorious cap. No wonder the Federal Government awarded her with the MFR national honor.
The agile woman, a benefactor with ready smiles for everyone, is no more.
From courage to kindness, resilience generosity…Iyalode Alaba Lawson possessed a multitude of positive traits.
Today, the leadership of her Alma Mater, AGGS, as represented by the Global President, Mrs Olusolape Ajibola, and her team paid a condolence visit to the Lawson and Jiboku family in Abeokuta. The Chief Judge of Ogun Ogun State, Justice Mosun Dipeolu, also an old girl of AGGS, was at the frontline on the visit.
AGGSOGA Global President, Mrs Olusolape Ajibola, said the “Association is deeply saddened “by Iyalode Alaba Lawson’s death.
She said the late Lawson was “an individual who touched many lives with her kindness, grace, strength, boldness, fearlessness, resilience, truthfulness, regardless of whose ox is gored”.
Everyone on the visit recalled Alaba Lawson’s great strides and positive impacts on many lives.
Below are the videos and photos of the visit.
