The power tussle between Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has culminated in the impeachment of the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, less than a week after his election.
Aribisogan was elected Speaker last week to replace the late Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, who died last month after suffering a heart attack.
The new Speaker was however impeached this morning by 17 of the 25 members of the Assembly under heavy security.
The impeached Speaker was also suspended indefinitely from the Assembly.
Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba was subsequently elected as new Speaker.
