Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is battling for his life at a military hospital in the Latin American country.
According to reports, he was rushed to a military hospital at the Federal Capital Territory after presenting recurrent hiccups and difficulty in breathing. He was admitted and transferred to another hospital in Sao Paulo where he was intubated in the Intensive Care Unit.
The far-rightist was operated on four times in 2018 when he was stabbed by a thug during a campaign tour. NewsmakersNG learned that he arrived at Vila Nova Star hospital in Sao Paulo in the early hours of Thursday. The medical team said that the President would remain hospitalized.
His son Flavio, said that the father, Bolsonaro had earlier been moved to an intensive care unit and intubated.
The medical team confirmed he was intubated to keep him from breathing in liquid coming from his stomach. The complications are allegedly due to the stabbings he suffered three years ago.
The surgeon who operated on Bolsonaro in 2018, Dr. Antônio Luiz Macedo, had decided the President should do additional tests to check an obstructed intestine and possible emergency surgery.
Brazil’s communication minister, Fábio Faria, said that Bolsonaro had been sedated and could go through surgery again if needed. He confirmed that the President tested negative to COVID -19 test realized at the hospital.
The news of this sudden Bolsonaro’s hospitalization is not helping the far-rightist sinking in the national opinion polls due to his incapability of curbing the world’s second-deadliest coronavirus pandemic and heavy corruption scandal rocking his government over the purchase of vaccines.
There are fears that he might be impeached as the Supreme Court has approved criminal investigations against him and his ministers.
