Stakeholders in the security sector have advocated for intelligence gathering and the use of technology in the fight against insecurity that is ravaging Nigeria.

Speaking at an event organized by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Policy Development and Analysis Thursday in Abuja, participants bemoaned the increasing crime rates in the country.

They queried the inability of governments at all levels to fight the current crime waves to the barest minimum.

Speaking on the use of technology, the participants, drawn from the Civil Society Organizations, security sector, media, and concerned Nigerians, called on the security agencies to use drone to fish out the hiding places of criminal elements, who operate majorly from the bush.

The participants also called for the use of GPS in locating water for herds, as it’s done in developed nations, in order to reduce the incessant crises between farmers and herders.

The participants,  who were largely on zoom and physical gathering, insisted that governments at all levels must deal with insecurity from the root by ensuring that all grievances are dealt with appropriately from the onset before escalating to the unbearable.

The Senior Special Assistant on Policy Development and Analysis to the President, Ibrahim Bapetel Hassan, said that recent happenings in Nigeria called for the review of approach to the issue of national security.

He said: “Our advancement as a nation is dependent on how secure we are as a people. Many concerned Nigerians have continued to proffer solutions that will enhance security of lives and properties in addition to restoring strained relationships.

“It is our belief that if some of the solutions proffered are properly harnessed, they will go a long way in contributing to the understanding of the existing security challenges and the way forward.”

The fifth in the monthly series, according to the SSA, is to exchange ideas between government and the citizens.
