Two bullion vans loaded with cash have been impounded by the police in the Ajah area of Lagos on the orders of the Area Commander, ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi.

Investigations by NewsmakersNG revealed that the bullion vans belonging to Bankers Warehouse were impounded for alleged breach of security.

“The two bullion vans were impounded somewhere in Ajah and Lekki for breach of security. For quite sometimes, banks and their subsidiaries had jettisoned the standard approved species escort procedure which had in a number of times caused a security breach. It’s expected that this recent action will put an end to the breach of procedure,” an officer told NewsmakersNG.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the police had earlier warned that bullion vans would be impounded in Lagos if they violate approved standard species escort procedure which includes an escort vehicle in front and at the back of the bullion van with a minimum of four mobile policemen in each vehicle.

According to sources, the bullion vans were without escort vehicles when they were impounded.

Armed robbers recently attacked a bullion van in Ajah killing two victims.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu had reportedly met with the management of Banks and their subsidiaries earlier, during which ACP Olugbemi allegedly vowed to arrest any violator of police order and directives.
