An Adamawa High Court sitting in Yola yesterday sentenced one Bappa Alti to death by hanging for killing his five-year-old son for one million naira reward.
The State High Court 7 presided over by Justice Fatima Ahmed Tafida convicted Bappa for causing the death of his son by hitting him with a rearing stick and thereafter cutting off his head with a cutlass.
The convict who was 24 as at the time of the incident reportedly lured his son, Buba, to the farm on July 13, 2013 in Ganji, Gombi Local Government of Adamawa State where he committed the gruesome act.
When the convict returned home, his father, Guza, reportedly asked for the whereabouts of the deceased but Bappa told him that he left the child behind in the farm.
When the boy did not return from the farm after days, the grandfather lodged a complaint at the Gombi divisional police station.
Subsequent search by the police led to the discovery of the headless body of Buba under a tree in the farm covered with leaves.
Baffa was later arrested and confessed during interrogation that one Alhaji Sange Hassan contracted for one million naira to get a human head.
He confessed to committing the act, saying he intended using the money to raise the status of his father, mother and his family. Alhaji
Hassan however denied the allegation, claiming that it was a set up aimed at tarnishing his image.
The convict was arraigned before the court on the charge of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the penal code law and punishable with death
After evaluating all the exhibits tendered by the police including the severed head of the deceased, the cutlass used to commit the act and the voluntary confessional statement of the accused, the presiding judge declared that without iota of doubt, the suspect actually masterminded the killing of his son and therefore sentenced him to death by hanging.
