The Executive Director of Onelife Initiative for Human Development, an Ibadan-based civil society organisation, Sola Fagorusi, has been released by his abductors after spending 21 days in their custody.
Fagorusi was released on Tuesday night alongside a colleague, identified simply as Kuye, who was also kidnapped when he went to deliver the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
NewsmakersNG reported that Fagorusi and the organisation’s head of media and communication, Samuel Akpan, were kidnapped along Aramoko-Igede road on September 30.
Fagorusi and Akpan were returning to Ibadan from the site of an agricultural project in Itapaji-Ekiti when the incident happened.
NewsmakersNG learnt that Akpan was released by the kidnappers after an unspecified ransom was paid but instead of releasing Fagorusi they also kidnapped the person that brought the ransom.
The news of Fagorusi’s release was confirmed by his close friend and investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, in a tweet yesterday.
Soyombo’s tweet read, “We like to announce that after exactly 21 days in captivity, ‘Sola Fagorusi, the Executive Director of Onelife Initiative for Human Development, regained his freedom from his abductors late last night. This is to thank everyone for your donations, prayers and well wishes.”
