Live bullets were fired into a mass of protesters at Lekki area of Lagos in a commando operation by the Nigerian military that left many dead and injured this Tuesday night.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the CCTV cameras on the Lekki highway were removed and lights were switched off before the shootings by security agents began.

Horrified Nigerians have described the incident as genocide in various reactions on social media.

The crackdown on young Nigerians protesting against police brutality commenced on the 14th day of the protest that witnessed allegedly sponsored thugs posing as protesters attacking people and setting police stations ablaze.

Some of the thugs were seen being conveyed out of the scene by SUVs with tinted glasses and security patrol vehicles.
