Lagos State health commissioner, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has disclosed that a total of 2,683 confirmed COVID-19 patients in the state are currently not admitted into any isolation centre or undergoing supervised home management.
This is contained in the Lagos COVID-19 update released this morning by the commissioner via his verified Twitter handle, @ProfAkinAbayomi.
Figures released by Abayomi, as well as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also show that Lagos recorded approximately 50 percent rise in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases this month.
According to Abayomi, 4,891 out of the total of 10,042 confirmed cases in the state were recorded between June 2 and June 27.
Figures released by NCDC also show that an additional 118 cases were recorded in the state yesterday, taking the total to 10,144.
This current statistics therefore shows that out of the current total of 10,144 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lagos State, 5,009 were recorded between the 2nd and 28th of this month.
The commissioner also disclosed that 1,533 patients have recovered and discharged from isolation centres across the state. That figure had however risen to 1,592 yesterday night.
The 128 COVID-19 related deaths confirmed in the state as of June 27, however, contradicted the 126 announced by the NCDC yesterday night.
Abayomi’s tweets read, “4,891 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Lagos State between June 2 and June 27, 2020 bringing total of confirmed cases in the State to 10,042.
“Out of the confirmed cases, 1,533 patients have since been discharged from #COVID19Lagos care centres following full recovery.
“5, 226 of the cases monitored in communities by #COVID19Lagos response team have either fully recovered or responded positively to treatments at home.
“454 of the cases are currently under isolation in public and private care centres across Lagos.
“However, 2,683 active cases in the communities are yet to turn up for admission in care centres either due to ignorance/fear of stigmatisation or preference for home care.
“As at 27th of June, 2020 numbers of #COVID19 related deaths in Lagos State have risen to 128.
“16 #COVID19 patients have been transferred to other states while 2 patients evacuated outside Nigeria.”
