Kwara State government has confirmed two cases of coronavirus in the state, just as Lagos State announced the discharge of two more patients today after making full recovery from the virus.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said one of the cases is the wife of late Alhaji Muideen Obanimomo, a UK-returnee who died at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) of suspected coronavirus on Thursday.

In a statement he shared on Twitter via @kwaragovt, Ajakaye said the second case is also a UK-returnee.

The statement by Ajakaye reads, “Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 sadly confirms two seperate cases of COVID-19 in the state. One is the wife of the UITH patient, a UK returnee, who died last Thursday and the other is another UK returnee.

“This statement is issued at 18:33pm, a few minutes after the government received official confirmation of test results from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Test Centre in Ibadan.

“The government will address a news briefing tomorrow morning at 11am to give details and further measures now being taken to tackle the development.”

Also annoucing the discharge of the two patients in a series of tweets this evening via @jidesanwoolu, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said a total of 31 patients have now fully recovered from coronavirus in the state and discharged from the isolation centre.

The governor’s tweets read, “Dear Lagosians, I have more great news for you from our Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba. Today, two more female patients have recovered fully and have tested negative to #COVID19 twice consecutively. They have been discharged from the facility.

“With the newly discharged patients, we now have a total of 31 people that have fully recovered from #COVID19 in Lagos and discharged to join the community.

“We are full of appreciation to the front line health workers, working hard during this difficult time.

“Their successful strides in this war against #COVID19 brings us joy and hope. I therefore enjoin citizens to continue to listen and obey health advisories issued by our health experts as they coordinate resources to beat #COVID19.

“I have no doubt whatsoever that we have the upper hand in this war. We are winning and we will eventually win.

“Remember to #StayHomeStaySafe to #SaveLives.”
