The policeman who shot dead a truck driver for refusing to pay N50 bribe in Ondo State on Monday is currently at large.

The truck driver, identified as Ado Saleh, who operated along Akure-Owo expressway, was shot dead at a checkpoint.

A top police source who disclosed this to NewsmakersNG this evening, also said three other policemen had been arrested over the incident.

The source said the arrested policemen were on duty at the checkpoint with their fleeing colleague when the incident happened.

“His arrested colleagues said the one that fired the shot among them escaped in the middle of the confusion that greeted the incident and he is yet to be seen,” the source disclosed.

The source however declined to reveal the identities of the fleeing policeman or his arrested colleagues.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the refusal of the deceased to pay the bribe led to a heated argument between him and the police.

It was in the cause of the argument that one of the police officers reportedy shot him.

Saleh was said to have died instantly.

The incident led to a protest that the police found difficult to control, with protesters halting vehicular movement on the road for several hours.
