Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu

For those who might be wondering what makes the newly appointed Lagos State commissioner of police (CP) Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu worthy of his posting, the answer is in his credentials released by the authorities today.

A declaration of Odumosu’s natural assets released by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, shows not just a time and battle-tested crime fighter, but a man of value across disciplines.

Odumosu, who has made a reputation as a worthy achiever in crime-fighting in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, is also an accomplished author and law graduate with immense intellectual assets.

He is the author of three books – Principles of English Language; 1005 Objective Questions and Answers in English Language, and a drama book – The Price of Indiscipline.

Born on January 25, 1962, Odumosu graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a B.A (Hons) in English Language, a Masters in Public Administration from Lagos State University, Ojo, and an M.SC in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution is in view at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

He also possesses L.L.B. (Law) from NOUN, a post-graduate Higher Diploma in Security Management and Operations from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka; Advanced Diploma in Terrorism Studies from UNILAG; Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Marketing from Nigeria Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos; Diploma in Security Management and Operations, Advanced Diploma in Law Enforcement Administration, and Higher Diploma in Terrorism Studies from University of Lagos.

The academic accomplishments included a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Marketing from Nigeria Institute of Journalism.

Odumosu enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on March 3, 1990, as cadet ASP and rose through the ranks.

His profile released by Mba says Odumosu has had a vast experience in operations, investigations and administration. He started his policing career as Operations Officer in Isokoko, Ketu and Satellite Divisions as well as Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin, Lagos.

He was the Chairman, Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences, Governor’s Office, Alausa, Ikeja.  He equally served as the Officer in Charge, Pensions Office in Edo and Ogun states.

He was in charge of Research and Planning Department, Kaduna State Command.

Odumosu had also served as Commander, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Command and Area Commander, Akwanga, Nasarawa State. He was Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Western Ports Authority Command, Lagos and the Commander at Agodi Area Command, Oyo State.

He was Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations (FEDOPS), and Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja.

He was Commissioner of Police, Department of Research and Planning and Commissioner of Police (Inspectorate), Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He served as the Commissioner of Police, Edo State and later Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja. He was a member and Head of Enforcement Unit of the Presidential Taskforce on the Restoration of Law and Order on Apapa gridlock in Lagos.

Odumosu belongs to various Professional Bodies. He is a Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration and a Fellow of International Institute of Professional Security. He is an active member of International Association of Chiefs of Police and a member of Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria.

He has received more than 20 awards and recognitions in his career.
