Members of the Brazil chapter of Oodua Progressives Union (OPU) celebrated the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Iba Gani Adams, at the weekend, as they launched the 87th branch of the union in Sao Paulo.
The Executive palace hall at the Alameda Prado, in the heart of Sao Paulo city, received a host of dignitaries at the occasion which included Otunba Adekunle Aderounmu, Alhaji Akeem Apena, Ogunlowo Abiola Coker, Oluwafemi Banjo Arowolo, Aderemi Abiodun Thomas, Olatunji Rasheed Oluwatosin, Demola Olusanya among others.
“We are sons and daughters of Oodua. We are one,” the coordinator of the Union, Alhaji Akeem Apena, said in his opening speech at the event.
Aderounmu, who is the patron of the chapter, and the patron of the Egbe Omo Oodua in Brazil, represented Aare Gani Adams.
He celebrated the two strong Yoruba communities in Brazil and mentioned that the Yoruba Generalissimo would visit Brazil soon.
He thanked the Yoruba communities in Brazil and pledged to do his best towards the upliftment of the Yoruba culture and tradition in the Latin-American country.
Comrade Abiola Coker, the secretary of OPU, spoke at length on the 87 countries where the Yoruba culture and tradition is waxing stronger through the activities of OPU.
He paid homage to the Aare Ona Kakanfo with chants as it is done in the ancient Yoruba kingdom
Brazil is one of the countries out of the African continent where Yoruba language, culture and tradition are observed.
