An undergraduate of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Ugheli, Delta State, has told how he tried to defraud a senator he perceived to be very rich.

Terry Okpoma, the Elect/Elect 200-level student said after reading and watching in the media the displaying of affluence by Sen. Ned Nwoko, he felt he could partake in the wealth.

Explaining how he hatched his plan, the Emadi, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State-born 24-year-old man, said he initially got hold of the Senator’s website, downloaded more information about him which he eventually used against him.

He said, “At a point, I started noticing Senator Ned Nwoko when he newly got married to his actress wife, Regina. I got his website address and retrieved information, where I contacted him through email.

“I lied to him that I was being sent by his enemies to assassinate him. I said this to create fear in him so that I will be able to collect money from him. I contacted them severally, but he was very smart. He told me that he knew that I was just out to scam him. Since I knew that the Senator is a guy man, I gave in and told him that I just wanted to get some money from him.

“Senator Ned, eventually, promised to give me N400, 000 out of the N2 million I initially demanded from him. He asked for my account details, which I gave him without suspecting any questionable game from him.

“It was when I came back from Ghana and went to Lagos before going back to school that I was arrested by some policemen at the bank’s premises.”

Okpoma, who insisted that it was his first time of getting involved in the type of scam, confessed that he has been involved in a dating scam, where he had collected hard currencies from unsuspecting white women.

“I feel awful. I am ashamed of myself. I don’t even know what to tell my parents and loved ones. I pray that God should have mercy on me and deliver me. I promise never to get involved in anything capable of tarnishing the image of my family,” Okpoma said when he was paraded alongside other suspected criminals by the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command on Friday, in Abuja.
