Twitter has restored the account of BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) co-founder and social critic, Aisha Yesufu, less than 24 hours after it was suspended.

The account had been unresponsive since yesterday evening, with a message from Twitter reading: “Caution: this account is temporarily restricted. You are seeing this warning because there has been some unusual activity from this account.”

Yesufu, however, tweeted a few minutes ago to announce her return to Twitter.

Her her tweet reads: “Thank you everyone for your voices. I have gotten a mail from @Twitter and I am back. I will continue to be a voice. My voice is not for myself alone but for so many others who unfortunately did not get that education that so many of us take for granted to have a voice. THANK YOU.”

Note of apology from Twitter

Many Twitter users had expressed outrage at the development, describing it as an attempt by some powerful interests to shut the mouth of a vocal critic of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
