President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the Senate to confirm the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, as the substantive CJN.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the letter was delivered to the Senate yesterday night.

The letter was read by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan at plenary today, following the recommendation by the National Judicial Council (NJC) that the acting CJN be confirmed.

In another letter, Buhari sought the approval of the Senate to appoint 15 Special Advisers pursuant to the relevant section of the Constitution.

Muhammad has been acting as the CJN since January 25 this year following the suspension of former CJN, Walter Onnoghen.
