A video circulating online has shown the moment after a mobile police sergeant, Sam Xrankee, singlehandedly repelled an ambush by suspected herdsmen against travellers on Benin-Okada road.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the incident happened on Monday morning when a group of gunmen suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on travellers.
The policemen, who was escorting one of the vehicles caught in the ambush, had engaged the attackers in a gun fight, injuring one of them in the process and forcing them to run back into the bush.
None of the travellers was reportedly injured in the encounter.
Xrankee posted a video of the incident on his Facebook page today to celebrate his feat.
He also wrote in the post: “The Day I save(d) many live(s) in benin okada road. Thank God for everything. Attack by arm(ed) headmen (hersdmen) on Monday on our way back from Anambra state at about 11.35am.”
