Abbo wanted by IGP Adamu over malicious physical attack on salesgirl in Abuja

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Senator Elisha Abbo and his orderly for allegedly physically abusing a salesgirl in Abuja.

Investigations are ongoing at the Federal Capital Territory police headquarters by a team of detectives set up by the IGP.

The news of the attack went viral after a video recorded by the Close Circuit Television (CCTV), installed in the shop was shared on the social media, an act which is said to have embarrassed the police authorities.

The police say they are doing everything within their powers to restore dignity to the force, following the conduct of the police orderly attached to the senator.

The police have confirmed that the incident happened in a sex-toy shop in Abuja, where the senator had gone to make purchases.

The video which has been circulating on the internet shows the angry Senator beating up the salesgirl. He also ordered his police orderly to take her away.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, presents a clear view of the IGP’s position.

The statement reads: “The Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM,mni has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on a female Nigerian by Senator Abbo Elisha. Specifically, the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Bala Ciroma to provide a personal and round-the-clock supervision of every facet of the investigation, including the Forensic analysis of the video currently in circulation as well as the actions/inactions of the Policeman seen in the video footage.

“The IGP, while assuring citizens of utmost professionalism by the Police in the handling of the matter, promised that the Force will ensure that justice is manifestly done in this case irrespective of whose ox is gored. 

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Bala Ciroma has already established contact with the victim of the assault and has commenced an investigation in earnest into the case.

“The IGP thanked Nigerians for their massive show of empathy and concern for the rights of their fellow citizen and urged continuous citizens’ engagement in the tackling of the wider challenges of security in our country.”
