Mrs Adenrera Olayinka Adeyemi has been appointed as the Director of the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) saddled with the responsibility of rendering free legal services to the indigents and the vulnerable in Lagos State.

Before her appointment as the Director Office of the Public Defender, Mrs Adeyemi had served briefly at the Directorate for Citizen’s Rights, Ministry of Justice and she was the Director of Advisory and Legal Services, Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

According to a statement jointly signed by Yusuf Bolarinwa and June Vincent of the Public Affairs Unit of OPD, she was called to the Nigerian bar in 1991. She started her career with the Chambers of Olomola-Owa & Co as Junior Counsel in 1992 and later moved to Iranloye & Co where she became fully involved in litigation practice.

Mrs Adeyemi joined the Lagos Civil Service in 1994 with Lagos State Ministry of Justice as Legal Officer I in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions where she became a seasoned Public Prosecutor and rose to the post of Chief State Counsel.

In 2004 she was transferred to the Office of the Public Defender where she rose to the post of Director. In September 2015 she was transferred to Directorate of Civil Litigation.

Mrs Adeyemi has a Master’s Degree in law from University of Lagos. She has also undergone several trainings locally and internationally to develop her managerial and professional skills. 

Mrs Adeyemi attended training in Good Governance in the prestigious University of Pretoria, South Africa. She has also been trained as Human Right Field Worker in the National University Ireland, Maynooth, in Dublin.

She also has advance training in Criminal Defense from the Continuing Legal Education Program of National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, USA.

She is an Internationally Certified CEDER Mediator. She is also a Chattered Mediator having undergone training with the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Abuja. She has attended conferences and workshops both locally and internationally including International Bar Conference.

She is a member of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), African Women Lawyers’ Association (AWLA), International Bar Association, Federation of Women’s Lawyer (FIDA) and International Member of National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers (NACDL) USA.
