Three suspects have been held in Ogun State over the use of kitchen knife and pepper to snatch motorcycles.
According to Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the arrest of the suspects followed a complaint lodged at Ilaro police station by a commercial motorcycle rider, identified as Abdul
Olakintan allegedly carried three passengers from Fab filling station, Ilaro, to Odo Fufu area only for the passengers to suddenly bring out a knife with which they forced him to stop and subsequently rubbed dry pepper on his face before snatching his motorcycle.
Following the report, the DPO Ilaro Division, CSP Opebiyi Sunday, detailed his detectives to embark on a manhunt for the suspected armed robbers.
Their efforts paid off, following a tip-off and the assistance from members of the community, one of the suspects identified as Tajudeen Akeem was arrested. His arrest led to that of two other suspects namely Idowu Samson and Taofeek Taiwo
Oyeyemi stated: “On interrogation, the suspects who all live in Mushin area of Lagos State confessed to being responsible for a series of motorcycle snatching in Ilaro and its environs.”
Items allegedly recovered from the suspects included the snatched motorcycle, a nylon containing dry pepper, and a knife used for the operation
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS) for discreet investigation. He also warned cyclists to desist from carrying more than one person at a time for their own security and safety.
