What appears like blood being stepped on by the new wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in a picture going viral, is nothing but Osun (Camwood powder), the palace has explained on its social media platform.

Camwood powder is a red powder that comes from the Camwood tree found in Central West Africa and it’s often used in Yoruba marriage rites to paint the feet of the bride.

The palace says in a post:

“The new Yeyeluwa wasn’t stepping on blood but OOSUN (Cam Wood). “Iyawo Elese Oosun” ….hope you remember Ayinde Barrister’s song? There’s nowhere in Yoruba tradition where the bride is required to step over blood as part of a wedding rite.”

The picture had generated controversy triggered by the evangelist status of the new wife.
