Fifteen suspected criminals have been held in Katsina in connection with armed robberies, kidnappings, and possession of Indian hemp.

According to the police, the gangs were smashed after a series of robberies and kidnappings in the state.

The Katsina State commissioner of police (CP) Mohammed Wakili told a news conference Thursday that arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects, including sacks of Indian hemp.

The police smashed a gang that kidnapped one Rabo Alhaji Shagari of Faskari village and collected N1million ransom from his relatives for his release.

In the course of the investigation, one locally made Rifle with three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition was recovered from the suspects identified as Abubakar Tukur Jauro, 27; Lallabi Ibrahim, 27, and Lawal Wada, 26.

Wakili also spoke of those arrested on September 4, when officers in Katsina working in collaboration with the IGP monitoring and striking unit, after a tip-off, smashed a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping for ransom syndicate that migrated from Dansadau LGA of Zamfara State to Unguwar Goga village, in Faskari LGA of Katsina.

He said, “During a raid on their criminal hideouts the following suspects were apprehended: Usman Abdullahi, 29, of Unguwar Goga village, Faskari LGA of Katsina; Sa’id Abdullahi, 24, of the same address, and Haruna Murni, 26, of Ruwan Godiya village, Faskari LGA of Katsina.

“One G.3 Rifle with Breech No 0514503020 and five rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Suspects confessed to the commission of the offence.  An investigation is ongoing with a view of arresting other members of their syndicate.”

Two men from Mazoji and Sayaya villages, in Matazu area of Katsina who had been declared wanted by the police for armed robbery and kidnapping, were among the paraded suspects. They were identified as a 34-year-old man, Umar Suleiman, variously known as Mushoda or Anaruwa, and one Sada Bala aka Na-Iraqi, 38, accused of terrorizing Danmusa/Safana/Dutsinma local government areas (LGA) of Katsina.

According to the police, the suspects on August 26, 2017, at about 8 pm, invaded Hawan Dan-Maigyda village, along Kankara – Dutsinama road, in Danmusa area of Katsina and shot two persons.  Two members of the gang, namely – Horon Anchau and Mohd Bello alias ‘Kiri Gorore were arrested and one AK 47 Rifle was recovered in the course of the investigation.
