Three suspected bandits have been shot dead in Ogun State by officers responding to a distress call that a bush meat merchant was being robbed at Fidiwo area, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.

Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, told NewsmakersNG in a statement that the suspects were killed by policemen attached to Owode-Egba Division when they were allegedly robbing one Jumoke Ogunbade, a popular bush meat seller who had gone to the area to meet her supplier.

Oyeyemi stated: “On receiving the information, the DPO Owode-Egba Division, CSP Sheu Alao, quickly led his Anti-Robbery Team to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums in gun duel which lasted for about 30 minutes.

“At the end of the encounter, three members of the syndicate were gunned down while others escaped into the nearby bush with gunshot wound.

“Recovered from them are: one locally made single barrel gun, one shot double barrel gun, one single barrel muzzle loading gun, one live cartridge, a wrist watch belonging to the victim of the attack and a cash sum of N10, 220.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Iliyasu, who praised his men for their gallantry and quick response to distress call has ordered for serious manhunt for fleeing members of the gang. He also appealed to members of the public especially hospitals, traditional healers and other health officials to report to the police if anybody with gunshot injury is seen around their area.
