The police in Lagos today paraded a housewife who allegedly planned her own kidnap to force her husband to cough out money.

According to the Lagos State commissioner of police (CP) Imohimi Edgal, the 45-year-old suspect, Hadijat Kabir, also had her 18-year-old mentally challenged daughter kidnapped by the same gang she contacted for her own abduction.

While condemning the act, Edgal told reporters more about the arranged kidnap. He said, “On August 2, 2018, at about 1530hours, one Alhaji Kabir Muraino, aged 55 years, of Governor’s Road, Ikotun reported at Ikotun Police Station that his wife named Hadijat Kabir, aged 45 years and his daughter Hamidat Kemi aged 18 years, who is of unsound mind, were kidnapped on the same date on their way to Psychiatric Hospital, Oshodi, Lagos.

“That the kidnappers were demanding for the sum of N15million before the hostages would be released.  Based on this, I directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to ensure the speedy rescue of the hostages and arrest of the suspects.”

Narrating how the suspects were arrested, Edgal said: “Investigation revealed that the kidnappers were making their demands from a community in Ogun State, called Ado-Odo, Ota LGA.

“The operatives of the squad mobilized to the area and busted the camp of the kidnappers. The hostages were rescued and the following suspects were arrested.

“Ahmed Kudos, 29 years, and Hadijat Rufai, 39 years, all of Ado-Odo, Ogun State, while the rest fled the scene.

“When one of the hostages, Hadijat Kabir, was being debriefed, she confessed that she planned her kidnap with the arrested suspects to defraud her husband. She named the following persons who are on the run to be part of the kidnap syndicate. They are Wasiu Rufai a.k.a Ojuiyawodon, her native doctor and one Luqmon Ahmed Jossy.”

Speaking at the police parade, Hadijat told NewsmakersNG: “I need money and my husband is stingy. I had no evil intentions. I only wanted to get money to take care of my personal needs. My husband is a very rich man with houses in choice areas in Lagos. He doesn’t take care of me or even attends to my financial needs. I worked with him to build the empire he is enjoying. All I wanted was to get N500, 000 to take care of my needs. I have a family and I cannot assist them when they need my assistance.”

Edgal said that further investigation was on with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects.
