Reports say the office of the Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in Osogbo has been on fire today.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the fire started from the governor’s office.
The governor was reportedly not around at the time.
According to reports the fire was devastating because the security doors leading to the office could not be opened as the fire raged.
An online publication, Osun Defender, reported that “the fire outbreak occurred at the White House office of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Abeere on Monday evening.”
Eyewitnesses revealed that the inferno started around 4pm.
The publication further claimed: “The Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, and other top government functionaries were seen at the scene making frantic efforts to arrest the situation.”
Mr Adelani Baderinwa, the State Information Commissioner for Information, who came to governor’s office to access the damage, later told journalists the fire had been put off.
Baderinwa said the fire incident was as a result of power surge in one of the air conditioners inside the governor’s office.
The commissioner said nobody was injured and no document or equipment was destroyed.
“I want to reiterate that every document in the governor’s office is intact.
“The fire mainly affected the office of the governor alone and no other offices were affected,” Baderinwa said.
Osun State commissioner of police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, also visited the governor’s office to assess the extent of damage.
Adeoye, however, refused to comment on the incident.
