Boko Haram insurgents who brought back the abducted students of the Government Girls Science and Technical College to Dapchi, on Wednesday, warned residents never to enroll their children in school again.

The insurgents reportedly told the parents of the schoolgirls: “Don’t ever put your daughters in school again.”

One of the schoolgirls was also held back because she “refused to convert from Christianity to Islam”.

Five of the girls reportedly died in the custody of the insurgents.

A witness in the town of Dapchi also said the fighters told residents they had returned the girls “out of pity”.

Boko Haram returned 104 of the 110 abducted schoolgirls to Dapchi early Wednesday morning following negotiations between the federal government and the terrorist group.

Boko Haram translates as “Western education is forbidden” in the Hausa language.
