A woman was sent to jail in Abeokuta, Ogun State today, after she was found guilty of stealing.
Justice O. O. Majekudunmi of the Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta convicted and sentenced Folashade Olukemi Adeleke to six months imprisonment without an option of fine on two-court charge bordering on stealing.
“The convict who was arraigned by the Ibadan Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on November 25, 2016 and pleaded not guilty to the two count charge preferred against her was later found guilty of the charges after full trial. The Court convicted and sentenced her accordingly,” says EFCC spokesman in Ibadan, Mr Ayo Oyewole.
According to Oyewole, Folashade’s journey to the prison followed a petition to the EFCC, from a complainant alleging that the convict defrauded her of the sum of 6,750,000 under the guise that she had a four bedroom bungalow available for sale in Abeokuta.
The petition further alleged that after payment was made to the convict’s bank account, she allegedly diverted the money to her own use instead of transmitting the money to the owner of the property. This resulted to the owner of the property closing business with the petitioner and all efforts made to retrieve the money were unavailing.
One of the charges to which she was convicted reads: “Folashade Olukemi Adeleke on or about the 18th of November 2013 at Abeokuta within the Abeokuta Judicial Division stole the sum of N4, 000,000 only property of one Saheed Salawe which sum you received from Mrs. Virgina Ngozi Ojelade as part payment for the purchase of a property situate and lying at Ajebo Road Estate, Abeokuta.”
