Christmas and New year period is always a time of giving and joy, and 470 widows in Agege, Lagos got plenty of it from Hydra Edge foundation this last Yuletide.
The NGO gave each widow a bag of rice and garri on December 30.

Some of the widows rejoicing after receiving clothes and food items among other gifts at the event.

In addition, 100 elderly widows got Ankara fabrics at the annual community project for widows.
The founder, Mrs Abiodun Opeifa, wife of the Secretary on Transportation at the Federal Capital Territory and Former Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, whose passion is to eleviate the suffering of widows and orphans started the foundation in 2008.
For 10 years she has been putting smiles on the faces of widows and ophans in Agege area of Lagos where she lives.
Last year 500 widows benefited from the foundation’s gesture. In 2015, the foundation donated generators, deep freezers, grinding machines and baking machines to empower some widows and to improve their businesses.
However, apart from the bags of rice and garri, 20 women in 2011 and 10 women in 2010 got N50,000 each to help them start a small scale business.
The foundation also do vocational training regularly on soap and adire making.
Apart from widows, they also train the youths on Computer applications, makeup and tying of gele.
