Police have arrested 28 armed robbery suspects in Oshodi, Lagos.
Police said the suspects were behind the recent robbery attacks on motorists in the area.
The operation took place about 7pm on Friday after a surveillance of the area by anti-robbery detectives.
A statement today by the acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, said the suspects would be charged to court on Monday.
The statement reads: “On the 10th of November 2017 at about 0700hrs at Oshodi area of Lagos State, SARS operatives arrested 28 hoodlums who attacked motorists in traffic gridlock caused by the ongoing construction in that area. The arrest was done by operatives of special anti-robbery squad through intelligence report and survilliance of the area during traffic period.”
The statement appealed to past victims of robbery in the area to help the police in identifying some of the suspects.
Imohimi also said the command would intensify its efforts in curbing crime during the coming holiday season.
“The police Lagos State is using this medium to inform members of the public who have been victims of traffic robbers in this area to kindly visit the State SARS office in Ikeja and help in identifying some of the arrested suspects. The suspects will be charged to court on Monday 13th November 2017.
“The command will do all it takes to locate criminal hideouts and arrest more suspected traffic robbers to ease movement of residents and ensure they feel safe to go about their daily activities, especially as the Yuletide period is fast approaching,” the statement added.
