The police in Katsina State have revealed why some men rape girls as young as three months old.
The revelation came, after a man testing the efficacy of a charm shot himself to death.
Katsina police spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, said that little girls are raped for ritual purposes by men seeking wealth and power through spiritual means.
He told how a man inadvertently killed himself through his belief in such rituals.
He said, “On 14/10/2017 at about 12:00hrs, one Audu Maikare of Gidan Maijimina Village, Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State, a member of Isan Gidan Gona vigilante group, Matazu, went to the house of vigilante group leader, one Samaila Rabiu of Dugul village, Matazu LGA of Katsina state for an occasion. The said Audu Maikare used his own Dane gun to test a gun charm on his body and in the process, he shot himself to death. Police patrol team were not informed on time as the victim was already taken away by his relations and buried according to Islamic rites.
“The Command, however, is drawing the attention of the general public for people to desist from patronizing fake traditional medicine sellers known in Hausa as (BOKAYE) who are endangering the lives of citizens usually by giving them fake charms/jazz for protection against gun shots etc; sometimes, giving them charms to be used for ritual purposes and as a result of which some young innocent girls up to the age of 3 months old are being raped through quest for materialism or worldly things.”
Isah also mentioned in a statement issued today that the police have smashed a gang of kidnappers who recently collected N2million as ransom before releasing a kidnapped girl.
He stated: “You can recall that, on 18/08/2017, the gang attacked the residence of one Alhaji Mansir Mansir of Danfili qrts, Malumfashi LGA of Katsina state and kidnapped his little daughter. She was released after the sum of N2 million was paid as ransom to the syndicate by the complainant.
“The Command was unrelenting and continues to pursue intelligence on the activities and movement of the syndicate until when it yielded result. And on 12/10/2017 at about 16:00hrs, operatives of the command succeeded and traced the syndicate to their hideout at Marabar Kankara Village, Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State. The ring leader of the syndicate, one Yusuf Muhammed alias ‘DABO’ aged 30yrs of Sabon Birni Village, Kaduna State, was arrested along with his cohorts.”
Isah identified other members of the gang as 30-year-old Suleiman Riskuwa of Ajja Village, Zamfara State; Tukur Sa’idu of Sabon Birni village, Kaduna State; Abdullahi Sule of Burdugau village Malumfashi, Katsina State, and Muhammadu Riskuwa, 60, of Wanke Village, in Zamfara State.
Isah added: “During the course of investigation the complainant, his wife, his house-help and the person who took the ransom have identified the ring leader Yusuf Muhammed alias ‘DABO’ as the one that robbed them and kidnapped his daughter. Investigation into the case is still ongoing.”
