Ten cheques worth N12.8million has been given to the families of policemen who were killed while serving the nation in Edo and Delta states.

The presentation was made Wednesday by Mr Abubakar Mohammed, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, with headquarters in Benin.

A statement by police spokesman in the Zone, Mr Emeka Iheanacho, says the money came from the Nigeria Police Group Life Assurance Claim Settlement Scheme.

Mohammed said that the gesture was to assist families of the heroes, who made the supreme sacrifice for Nigeria.

He commiserated with the beneficiaries over the demise of their husbands and noted that no amount of money was enough to replace their breadwinners.

The AIG reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its officers and men, in the efforts to encourage them to put in their best toward ridding Nigeria of criminals.

Seven beneficiaries from Edo Command received N7,694,769 million, while three from Delta Command received N5,107,210 million.
