The police in Katsina State have held two women who allegedly dumped a baby girl in a garbage can where she died.
According to the police, Qamariya Ismail, 25, and her 45-year-old mother – Hassana Sabiu were arrested after detectives interviewed their neighbours, who revealed that Qamariya had an illegitimate pregnancy.
Police spokesman, DSP Isah Gambo, told Newsmakers that the baby was dumped in the garbage can on July 31.
He said, “A dead female new born baby was found inside a dust bin at Madugu House along Yahaya Madaki way, Katsina State. Investigation was later carried out and the abandoned dead baby was traced to one Qamariya Ismail, aged 25 years old, of Sabuwar Kasuwa quarters, Katsina, whom her neighbours knew was having illicit pregnancy. The suspect, when arrested, confessed that her mother, one Hassana Sabiu, aged 45 years of the same address, assisted her and threw the baby inside the said Garbage-Can.”
