The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has moved some senior police officers in a minor shakeup.

Top on the list are the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone ‘2’ Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, Mr Kayode Cornelius Aderanti; the Imo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Taiwo Lakanu, and the Commandant at Police College, Ikeja – CP Chris Okey Ezike.

According to a signal from police authorities yesterday, Aderanti of Zone ‘2’ and AIG Adamu Ibrahim of Zone ‘1’ Headquarters in Kano will switch office.

Imo State appears twice lucky as Ezike, an accomplished crime fighter takes over from Lakanu, who has been elevated to the rank of AIG after a meritorious service.

Known in police circles as a tough cop that is hard on criminals and criminality, Ezike was DCP in charge of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) before his elevation to the rank of CP and posting to Rivers State in 2015, from where he was posted as CP Edo State.

He once headed the IGP’s Anti-Crime Task Force in Edo and Kogi as well as the IGP’s Monitoring Unit of the Police Counter Terrorism Investigation Unit.

Reports say bandits and cultists in Rivers and Edo knew a new man was in town, when Ezike was CP.

Lakanu will resume at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, on Monday, as AIG in charge of operations, after handing over to Ezike.

Meanwhile, CP Boniface Onyeabor will take over from Ezike as the Commandant, Police College.

All the officers are expected to finish handing and taking over by Monday, April 3.
