No fewer than nine members of Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin have tested positive for COVID-19.

This came as the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 213 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, marking a rise in number of new infections compared with recent figures.

An official of the Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed the development in the club in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Ilorin, NAN reports.

The source said 45 people were tested in the club, but nine of them had returned positive.

The source, however, stated that he could not confirm if any of the positive cases in Kwara United was with symptom or not because he did not know them.

According to NCDC, two COVID-19 related fatalities were also recorded yesterday taking the death toll from the disease to 1,103.

Lagos and Plateau States recorded the highest number of new infections with 51 cases each, followed by the federal capital territory with 29 cases.

Till date, 58,062 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Nigeria, out of which 49,606 have recovered.
