No fewer than 75 prominent indigenes of Yorubaland contested the Aare Ona Kakanfo title, won by the leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams.
Adams himself revealed this fact at a thanksgiving service to commemorate his installation in Lagos, today.
Speaking during the service held at the Celestial Church of Christ, Genesis Model International Parish, Alakuko, Adams said he was the least in status, judging by wealth and prominence, among the 75 candidates that contested the title.
He said his choice was also opposed by a number of powerful individuals in Yorubaland but the will of God eventually prevailed.
Adams said he had no doubt that he had been divinely ordained to occupy the highly esteemed and reverred position, hence, his decision to give all the glory to God.
Adams said: “For people to know that it was indeed God that sanctioned my emergence as the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, let me reveal that 75 of us contested the title. And out of the 75, I am the least wealthy. Also, a lot of powerful Yoruba indigenes opposed my choice but the will of God came to pass. So there was no doubt that it was God Himself that ordained me for the position.”
Adams was installed as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, on January 13, at a colourful ceremony held at the Durbar Stadium, Oyo.
