A 400-level student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Olayinka Emmanuel Olatunji, has reportedly taken his own life.
The incident became public after he posted a distressing video on the class WhatsApp platform from home, showing him consuming a harmful substance, later identified as sniper.
Newsmakerslive.org learned that fellow students made frantic attempts to reach out to him, only to learn of his death due to the toxic ingestion.
Reports suggest that the student’s decision to end his life might have been prompted by various pressures, including social circles and financial struggles.
One of Emmanuel’s secondary school classmates, who wishes to remain anonymous, revealed that he had been grappling with depression for some time, even expressing concerns about feeling targeted by certain groups and celebrities.
He said despite attempts he made to reach out and offer support, Emmanuel chose to keep his feelings bottled up.
“it is shocking to me to hear of his death. He was my secondary school classmate at Mafogram Secondary School,” he added.
