Popular Nigerian singer, 2Baba, was present as his wife, Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress alongside former Lagos governorship candidate, Funso Doherty.

The NDC announced Natasha’s defection through videos and photographs shared on its official social media platforms on Thursday.

While 2Baba was seen at the event, there was no official confirmation that the music star had also joined the party.

Natasha’s move marks her exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Her defection came on the same day Doherty announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and subsequent decision to join the NDC following the growing split within the opposition coalition.

In a statement dated May 7, 2026, Doherty said the divisions within the ADC coalition had shattered hopes of building a united opposition platform.

“We had hoped that ADC would be the vehicle that would unite the opposition. That is now clearly no longer the case,” he stated.

“After due consultation, careful deliberation and prayerful reflection, I have joined the NDC. I am convinced that this is the path that will enable us to deliver the benefits of good governance to those to whom they are due, every citizen, without exception.”

Doherty added that although the political struggle ahead would be difficult, he believed the emerging movement could offer Nigerians a credible alternative.

The latest defections are expected to boost the profile of the NDC as opposition politicians continue to reposition amid shifting alliances and growing uncertainty within existing coalition arrangements.
