24 Female Boxers Set Lagos Ablaze as Kehinde Obareh Launches Landmark Boxing Show

Lagos is set for an afternoon of power, passion and punches as 24 of Nigeria’s brightest female boxing talents prepare to battle for glory at the maiden edition of the Kehinde Joy Obareh Female Boxing Show on Sunday.

The competition, themed “She Fights, She Wins,” will take place at the Brai Ayonote Gym, National Stadium, Surulere, with the opening bell scheduled for 2 p.m.

Organisers said the event is designed not only to showcase the growing strength of women’s boxing in Nigeria but also to inspire young female athletes, support less-privileged boxers and expand public awareness of the sport.

The one-day championship is expected to attract hundreds of boxing enthusiasts eager to witness some of the country’s finest female fighters display their skills inside the ring.

The impressive line-up features athletes drawn from leading boxing clubs across Nigeria, including Gafar Fathia (Crown B/C), Adeshina Zainab (Owonikoko B/C), Adepoju Rokibat (Shaku B/C), Adeshina Aishat (LASU B/C), Ajayi Nimotallah (Aso Rock B/C), Adeniji Aliyat (Blessed B/C), Adegboega Princess (Always B/C), Zainab Ibrahim (Segun Body B/C), Idowu Busayo (NPF B/C), Bibiloye Kabirat (Supreme B/C), Bonu Pesu (LASU B/C), Lawal Fathia (Biggest B/C), Anuoluwapo Akanni (Alwas B/C) and Kazeem Fathia (Mass Kenny).

Others expected to thrill spectators are Sodipe Damilola (A-King B/C), Ismail Abibat (Always B/C), Olubuade Fridaus (Oluomo B/C), Oluwafemi Oluwanifemi (Crown B/C), Sodiq Tomiwa (Tiger 2 B/C), Ejeh Peculliar (Gao Star B/C), Adebisi Adenike (Biggest B/C), Adeinka Abigael (Brightess B/C), Kareem Shukurat (Brightess B/C) and Oinkansola Kehinde (Morgan B/C).

The championship is the brainchild of accomplished Nigerian boxer Kehinde Joy Obareh, whose inspiring journey has made her one of the country’s most respected female fighters.

Obareh began boxing at the age of 15 in Ketu, Lagos, before rising through the ranks to represent Nigeria at numerous national and international boxing and kickboxing championships.

Her glittering career has produced multiple medals and honours, earning her recognition among the world’s leading female boxers.

Beyond her achievements inside the ring, Obareh has continued to invest in her professional development. She recently completed an Advanced Diploma Boxing Coaching Course and obtained a Bronze Coaching Certificate in the United States.

Currently studying Business Administration at Southern New Hampshire University, USA, the accomplished athlete has fought more than 100 bouts in competitions across Nigeria and overseas.

Organisers expressed confidence that the inaugural championship will become a major platform for discovering and nurturing the next generation of Nigerian female boxing stars while inspiring more young women to embrace the sport.

As anticipation builds, Sunday’s event promises an explosive celebration of courage, determination and sporting excellence, with every contest expected to reinforce the growing stature of women’s boxing in Nigeria.
