- Senate Appropriation Chair Adeola, monarchs, community leaders expected
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, is slated to be the guest speaker at a media chat being organised by a group, Ogun West Professionals, scheduled to hold on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Frontiers Hotel, Ilaro, Ogun State.
The event is part of efforts to build consensus around the quest for the governorship seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation and Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola, is also expected to engage invited media representatives, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders at the forum. Adeola is widely regarded as a frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The media chat is aimed at fostering unity, coherence and a shared political direction among stakeholders in Ogun West Senatorial District, amid growing agitation for the emergence of a governorship candidate from the zone in the 2027 election.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Steering Committee of Ogun West Professionals, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, who is also the Executive Secretary of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), said the group was determined to address long-standing internal divisions that have hindered the zone’s political aspirations.
Bamgbose noted that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, the governorship seat has rotated only between Ogun East and Ogun Central senatorial districts, to the disadvantage of Ogun West, despite the zone accounting for about 37 per cent of the state’s landmass and serving as a major economic hub.
“As the 2027 governorship election draws nearer, Ogun West Professionals is ready to confront the challenges of disunity and lack of cohesion among major political actors in the district,” he said.
According to him, the group is engaging political aspirants across party lines who have indicated interest in contesting, with a view to harmonising opinions and building a formidable and united front.
“The media chat is being held in Ilaro, and we are projecting attendance of over 2,000 people. Our platform alone has close to 1,000 professionals, and we are reaching out to other strong groups, associations and artisan bodies across the state to ensure broad participation,” Bamgbose said.
He added that the objective was to create a strong and unified voice from Ogun West that could also secure the buy-in of Ogun Central and Ogun East senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We are working towards unity and coherence among aspirants from the zone. While we understand that we may not achieve 100 per cent alignment due to party differences and competing interests, our focus is to ensure that aspirants from Ogun West emerge as gubernatorial flagbearers of their respective parties,” he added.
Bamgbose further stated that Ogun West’s failure to produce a governor since the creation of the state had largely been attributed to the inability of political actors from the zone to speak with one voice.
“Ogun West Professionals identified lack of unity, coherence and collective purpose as major factors militating against the zone’s governorship ambition,” he said.
He explained that the group comprises indigenes from all five local government areas in the district —Ado-Odo/Ota, Imeko-Afon, Ipokia, Yewa North and Yewa South, cutting across Awori, Yewa, Anago and Ketu communities.
“The idea is to engage Senator Adeola directly, hear his agenda for Ogun West, and allow him to speak to the people and the wider public on how the zone can finally secure the governorship seat in 2027,” Bamgbose said.
