President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Benin Republic, urging the team to “keep hope alive” as they push toward qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu hailed the players’ hunger, passion, and determination, describing their performance in Uyo as a source of renewed pride for millions of Nigerians.

“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” the President said. “The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.”

Reassuring the team of federal backing, Tinubu commended the coaching crew for their commitment and discipline, pledging full government support as the Super Eagles continue their campaign.

“Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too. We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage,” he added.

The victory, powered by Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick and a late strike from Frank Onyeka, has strengthened Nigeria’s position in the qualifiers and rekindled national optimism after the team missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
