2019 Election: Reno Omokri Vows to Reveal Evidence INEC has a Server

Malik Yahya/

Social activist, Reno Omokri, has claimed that he is in possession of an incotrovertible evidence, which proves that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was lying when it claimed that it has no server to which results were transmitted during this year’s general elections.

Omokri stated this today in a Twitter post on his verified handle, @renoomokri.

He also promised to make the evidence public if the tweet was retweeted 1000 times.

The tweet which he put up about one hour ago had been retweeted 1,818 times at the time of writing this report.

His tweet: “BREAKING NEWS: I am now in possession of INCONTROVERTIBLE PROOF that @INECNigeria has and had a server, in form of a SIGNED ADMISSION by INEC’s spokesperson. RETWEET #ExposingINECNigeriaServer if you want to see it. A 1000 retweets, will be a sign Nigerians want it published.”

But in a swift reaction, Rotimi Oyekanmi, spokesman to INEC’s chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, described Omikri’s claim as improper and disrespectful of the Election Petition Tribunal, which is currently sitting on the suit challenging the outcome of the election.

Oyekanmi’s reaction was contained in a tweet in reaction to Omikri’s claim.

He advised Omokri to take whatever evidence he possessed to the tribunal rather than ridiculing the judiciary on social media.

His tweet read: “It is disrespectful of the Election Petition Tribunal for anyone to talk about a matter being heard in this manner. Go to the Tribunal and join the petitioner’s team with your evidence if you have any. Social media is not the Tribunal. Don’t ridicule our judiciary.”

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has fixed today to commence hearing in the suit filed by the candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress in the election.

One of grounds on which Atiku is challenging the result of the election is his party’s claim that the results on INEC’s server is substantially different from the one it declared to the public.

INEC had however responded that it did not make use of any server during the election.
