Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, is reportedly facing removal as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum following an extraordinary meeting of governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Abuja on Thursday night.
The development came hours after Uzodimma spoke on behalf of APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 election.
According to reports, about 20 governors attended the closed-door meeting held at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, with discussions centred on leadership changes within the governors’ forum.
Although no official statement had been issued by the forum as of press time, multiple reports indicated that a new chairman was expected to emerge before the end of the meeting.
Uzodimma, who has chaired the PGF since 2023, has remained one of Tinubu’s closest political allies within the APC and has played a central role in rallying governors behind the President’s second-term ambition.
The latest move comes amid a series of internal realignments within the APC leadership structure.
Earlier this year, Uzodimma was also removed as chairman of the party’s National Convention Central Coordination Committee and replaced by former Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari.
Party insiders linked that decision to zoning considerations and efforts to accommodate older party power brokers.
The Progressive Governors Forum serves as the umbrella body for governors elected on the APC platform and has historically played a major role in shaping party leadership decisions, convention arrangements and presidential negotiations within the ruling party.
