Police in Bayelsa have uncovered an armed robbery gang comprising two couples, including an 18-year-old pregnant wife.
Members of the gang include, 35-year-old Preye Idan, his pregnant wife, Divine, Iro Royereyigha, 30 and his wife, Abani Perelebina, who is also 18.
The couples were arrested after they had robbed a boutique in Biogbolo-Epie area of Yenagoa, at gunpoint, on September 21.
Divine told the police they hired the locally-made gun used during the operation from Iro and Abani.
The mother of one said they paid a deposit of N1000 for the gun with a promise to pay a balance of N100,000 after the operation.
Idan corroborated his wife’s confession but claimed the operation was their first. He said they used to trade in timber but recently fell on hard times.
Iro too confessed to the role he and his wife played in the crime.
The suspect, who has 11 children from two women, said he got the gun from a friend and kept it with his second wife, Abani.
Commissioner of Police, Amba Asuquo, said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
