13 New AIGs Emerge as PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks in a major reshuffle aimed at strengthening the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions, approved at the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday, followed the successful completion of written examinations and oral interviews conducted recently at the PSC headquarters in Abuja.
PSC spokesman, Mr. Torty Kalu, disclosed the development in a statement, saying the exercise covered four senior cadres of the Force.

According to him, 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), while 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to Commissioners of Police.

The Commission also approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

In addition, the PSC confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

The newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police are Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Adebor, Isa Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Afegbua B. Rashid, Edozie Hycenth Azuka, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.

Those elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police are Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, integrity and dedication to duty.

He charged the officers to remain truthful, transparent and accountable in the discharge of their responsibilities, warning them against acts capable of bringing the Force into disrepute.

Argungu specifically cautioned them to avoid involvement in civil disputes, particularly land matters, and to uphold the highest standards of professionalism throughout their careers.

He reminded the officers that integrity remains their greatest asset, urging them to protect their reputations even beyond active service.

“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you. Always remember that there is life after retirement,” he said.
