11-year-old Boy Held for Shooting 2 Friends During Football Practice

An 11-year-old football player has been arrested for shooting two 13-year-old teammates following an altercation during their football practice at the Northwest Recreation Complex, Apopka, Florida  Monday.

According to the police, the boy who is yet to be named due to legal reasons, allegedly retrieved a gun from his mother’s car and fired a single shot, BBC reports.

A witness told police that the fight started over a bag of chips.

Police confirmed that one of the victims who was hit in the arm was treated and released the same night, the other victim who was hit in the torso, required surgery and has been confirmed stable.

Apopka police chief Mike McKinley speaking to newsmen Tuesday morning, described the incident as “not good.”

He added, “We shouldn’t have 11-year-olds who have access to guns and think they can resolve a dispute with a firearm.

“As a society, we need to reflect on this. We see this too often in our society now.

“Juveniles, young juveniles that have access to guns, but the more disturbing part is that they believe that gun, that firearm, is a resolution to their problem. And it’s not a resolution to anybody’s problems. It just creates more problems for everybody involved.”
